Restaurant Round-up

5 Feb

I figure it might be fun to do an occasional round-up of the restaurants and bars I check out around Los Angeles. If for no other reason than the fact that I can’t stop thinking about some of them….
This first place, for example …

1. Umami Burger

I loved LOVED it. Great happy hour. Tried the Truffle burger with sweet potato fries. Yum. Bartender was super friendly and gave us a run down of his favorite burgers when we asked for a little guidance. Their happy hour burger sounded intriguing- The Smash Burger- a smaller, but equally tasty burger for just $5. Woo!

2. Church & State

Swank. Quite a find in a somewhat random part of DTLA. Came for lunch, courtesy of blackboard eats, and was pretty impressed. A really nice space. Service was ehh.  Try the seared tuna sandwich-  tuna, tomato, cucumber, olives, and anchovies atop a crispy flatbread.

3. Venice Beach Wines

What a find. I’d driven by this place countless times, always curious, but with no real discernible sign I never knew what it was. Well. Now I do! It’s a tiny wine bar, with a very locals-only kinda vibe, and an amazing house roasted turkey sandwich. Their outdoor patio will be great during the spring and summer months, too!

4. Flying Saucer, Caffeine & Art

Nice to discover an independent coffee shop amidst all the Starbucks and Coffee Beans in Santa Monica. In fact, it’s a bit of a relief. While they  could do more to warm the place up- their Chai tea latte was amazing. Free WiFi too which makes working from home all the better!

5. Library Alehouse

An old classic. Or, is quickly becoming one. The place gets pretty packed- and loud- but if you can get a table on the back patio you’re all good. The service is always great, and as long as they keep pouring Allagash- I’m a happy kid.
